Web-Based Cashier System Design Using the Waterfall Method (Case Study: Patih Cell)

Abstract

Patih Cell, a phone-accessory kiosk located in Guguk Village of Merangin Regency, still writes down its sales by hand, a habit shared by many small businesses. Four difficulties arise from this: stock counts rarely match the records on a near-monthly basis, compiling daily sales figures is slow, the handwritten receipts vary in layout, and the owner lacks a quick overview of shop performance. This research responds by designing and building a web-based point-of-sale application to settle those four difficulties. Development followed the Waterfall model across five ordered phases: analysing needs, designing, coding, testing, and maintaining. The technology stack combines native PHP 8.x with the PDO library, a MySQL data store, and HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for the front end, deployed on an online hosting platform with seven linked database tables and eleven working modules. Black box Testing across 55 scenarios in every module reached a perfect 100% pass rate, whereas user acceptance evaluation with two participants yielded 94%, rated Very Feasible. The application demonstrably curbs stock discrepancies through automatic deduction, cuts the time needed to recap sales, prints uniform receipts, and delivers an instant performance summary for the owner.
